Playing with Domenico Gnoli

A video-based series developed following a visit to the exhibition dedicated to Domenico Gnoli at Fondazione Prada, and later exhibited at Carlo Cinque Gallery in Milan (May 2025).

Fascinated by the scale and detail of Gnoli’s paintings, the project begins as an act of observation and evolves into a playful yet critical reinterpretation. Isolated fragments of the original works become spaces for intervention — transformed through digital animation into shifting, unexpected narratives.

Shirt collars turn into ski slopes, hair becomes a landscape crossed by highways, drawers open onto the sea, and bodies are traversed by light, movement, and surreal elements.

Through these minimal yet disruptive gestures, the stillness of painting is gently altered. Figures and forms gain a new, quiet vitality — moving like silent actors within the composition.

Blending illustration, collage, and animation, the work creates a dialogue between past and present, opening the contemplative nature of painting to a more dynamic and narrative dimension.

A suspended space where irony, memory, and imagination coexist.
